Dan Owens, MBA, President, Active Adult Experts Owens has spent the last 18 years in the senior housing arena as a real estate professional, marketer and consultant. Owens is the founder of the National Active Retirement Association (NARA). This 10-year-old association serves active adult, empty nester and retirement community developers, as well as marketers and product/service providers who target 50+ clients. In addition, NARA has been on the forefront of working with towns and cities to establish formal retiree attraction programs and to promote the “industry” of retiree attraction to states, towns and cities. For over 10 years, Owens has published Retirement Lifestyles™, an award-winning retirement magazine and has worked with a diverse client base including developers, builders, marketers and states/towns/cities. As a former board member of the North Carolina Assisted Living Association (NCALA), Owens has also worked with continuing care retirement communities and healthcare properties in areas ranging from operations consultation, marketing, brokerage and appraisal. Owens has been interviewed about the retirement industry on FOX News’ “Fox and Friends” national television program, Money magazine, USA Today and a number of national and regional newspapers and broadcast media outlets. He has served on the board of the Western Carolina Alzheimer’s Association, the Nursing Home Advisory Board for Mecklenburg County (Charlotte, NC) and has been president of the board of the Charlotte Senior Centers. In 2005, he was appointed by Rep. Sue Myrick to the White House Conference on Aging. In addition, Owens has also been involved in valuation and brokerage services in the retirement industry. In 2007, he guided one of America’s foremost retirement developers, Erickson Retirement, to its new site in Matthews, NC. Now under construction, this development called Windsor Run, is the largest retirement community ever built in the Carolinas. Owens, a native of Arkansas, holds a B.S. degree from the University of Mississippi and an MBA degree from the University of South Carolina.
